FACILITATORS AND GUIDES OF THE HEALING FESTIVAL 2025

“No rain, no flowers” - Samuel Alexander
Wood that heals. Hands that slow down. A mind that breathes.
Samuel Alexander is a woodcarver, author, and teacher who found his way to the craft on his own - patiently, slowly, and with deep respect for the material and for nature. He works exclusively with hand tools and is drawn to traditional techniques of slow craft that create space for a conscious connection between maker and wood. He believes it is this space that brings calm, mental clarity, and a renewed respect for the natural world.
Over the years, he has welcomed more than a thousand participants to his courses. For him, craft is not just about making - it is also about healing. He has recently begun self-directed research in the field of craft psychology, exploring the holistic and therapeutic effects of working with one’s hands. He shares his insights through talks, demonstrations, live performances, and quiet meditative workshops where traditional wood carving becomes a path to inner stillness.
His work is unmistakable. Organic, rounded shapes inspired by nature, fruit, and the rhythms of growth are a tribute to the passing of time. He documents and shares his intimate creative process with thousands of followers on YouTube and Instagram, showing how even the slowest form of craft can feel deeply alive.
Samuel has presented his work at festivals and craft schools across Europe. In 2024, he published his first book, The Green-Wood Carver, a gentle guide to carving wood at home for anyone seeking a mindful step into the forest of craft.
After years of living in London, he has settled in South Moravia, where he creates under the open sky, in an unplugged workshop beneath a walnut tree, surrounded by birdsong, changing seasons, and the steady rhythm of nature.
Program
I am excited and grateful for this opportunity to shed light on wood carving as a holistic, mindful practice and to share my practical knowledge and discoveries with such a vibrant and connected community. Craft is a beautiful outlet that can nourish one's ability to express themselves - with over 10 years of making and teaching experience, I have seen how people's lives have been transformed, simply with a gentle push of a knife into wood. Modern wood carving has never been so accessible and analog skills have never been so vital to our reconnection to nature. I cannot wait to tell you all about it.
